Family Vacations Making Memories
Published Wednesday, June 1st 2022
When I think about vacations, I think about what my mom and dad use to do. We never had a ton of money, but we took a vacation every year no matter what the case. Our favorite place to go besides seeing family was going to Disney. I have so many great memories with my mom, dad, and Aunt Kak. She was older but was a spit fire and up for anything. She was my buddy when ridding the rides.
Our other favorite place was visiting family in Pennsylvania. We would go to the cottage on the river, the cousins would spend time together at my Aunt Marian’s house, and potentially get into a bit of trouble here and there. We celebrated anniversaries and mourned our losses. It was just a wonderful time for all of us to be together. As the years passed, we all got married, had kids, and now have vacations of our own. Although we live far apart, we always have those memories that keep us close. (GO PENN STATE)
Finally, my dad would love to try new places and things. Therefore, we normally would drive anywhere we went. My dad would say – “you never know what you might miss along the side of the road”! We drove everywhere! Mount Rushmore, Yellowstone Park, New Orleans, Wisconsin Dells, Orlando, you name it, and we would drive there! We would sit back and enjoy the ride, sing songs, and play car bingo. (I know you know what I am talking about.)
Today, it seems like there is never time to enjoy the little things in life. There is more to see and normally we want to fly because we want to do all we can in the short time we are visiting our vacation spot. We used to have maps, and now we have the internet, we have navigation systems, and we have one thing we all need – TRAVEL AGENTS. WAIT! Travel Agents have always been available, but not everyone used them. Usually only for an international trip or something tropical.
Travel agents have always been there to help, but now more than ever people are reaching out for assistance and planning. Not that they do not want to plan their own trips, but because they can work with someone, they trust to listen to them and partner with them to make the vacation an amazing family memory. That is really what it is all about. Sharing a family vacation that creates memories.
I am all about collecting memories and not things. After our house fire, a lot of our “things” were lost, but the one thing that we talked about during those weeks that made us laugh, the recent trips we took prior to the fire and where we wanted to go next.
Some people place importance on various things in their life. Me, I love the time that we spend as a family, relaxing, vacationing, and just living and creating memories.
Family vacations are not a thing of the past. If anything, I think Covid showed us that time is precious and never put off things you want to do or that are on your bucket list. Nothing can replace the memories a family vacation can make – these are memories that will last a lifetime. You work hard, now it is time to play harder with your family!
